Michela is an Architect and Civil Engineer who graduated from the University of Malta in 2010. Apart from specializing in structural engineering, Michela’s flair for design led her to complete an interior decorator course so as to expand her knowledge in this particular field.
She initiated her career within a well-established architectural firm, where she gained vast experience in the field of architectural design, structural analysis, construction and management of various projects, specializing in both contemporary and historical buildings. Here, she was given the opportunity to lead an in-house team of architects and structural engineers on a variety of projects, design competitions and tenders. Through the years she also got the opportunity to collaborate with various experts in the field, enabling her to understand the importance of each intricate aspect of every project. Michela also took on the role of team leader and structural lead on a number of projects of national heritage, thus developing her knowledge and ability to manage and direct a multi-disciplinary team of experts.
In 2017, Michela took the next step into her own venture, and cofounded JLZ+MBF Architects. As a woman in architecture, specifically in the structural engineering field, the formation of JLZ+MBF Architects was a significant achievement. Michela’s ambition has allowed her to overcome the several challenges faced when working in a predominantly male-influenced environment as she continuously strives to use these challenges as motivation to grow and develop herself further. Her desire to push boundaries in the local architectural scene drives her to experiment with distinctive designs, new materials, and innovative structural solutions.
Michela believes that the key to the success of her projects is through her ability to translate the voice of the clients from an initial concept to a functional, fully faceted build. Her strength lies in her ability to combine architectural expertise with her technical abilities to create innovative, efficient and quality designs.
