MOSTA
Located in the village core of Mosta, JLZ+MBF Architects have kept the original character of this townhouse whilst making an impact with a bold and minimal extension, which focused a synthesis of the internal with the external, filling this home with natural light.
The main entrance with its patterned tiles, white walls and contrasting dark mid-century railing reflect the original character and style of this house. The archway leading onto the large open space accentuate the original staircase and provide a hint of the contemporary extension beyond this part of the house.
A centrally located garden is the heart of this property, with the open-plan internal spaces at ground floor and the sleeping quarters at the first-floor level surrounding its perimeter. All rooms enjoy immense amounts of natural light through their large-glazed apertures. The prime intension throughout the design process was to ensure continuous outlook and create a combination of the outdoors and indoors.
The internal décor mainly makes use of neutral tones and soft timbers, which complement the crisp marble tops to the kitchen and bold green feature wall to the dining space. The tall, centrally located fireplace divides the split level between the lounge area and the rest of the house giving a sense of warmth and privacy.
The result is a welcoming, light-filled home featuring the transition between mid-century modern architecture to a more contemporary style of living.
