In the early hours of today, the prefabricated steel pedestrian bridge has landed on its bearings to its permanent position over the abutments in Luqa, which had been in construction in the past few months. This 34m bridge, spanning over 6 carriageways, has been in production in Italy and has been assembled in Malta.
To reduce the inconvenience to road commuters, assembly of the bridge was carried out off-site and then delivered with a dolly trailer with police escort during the night. The bridge required two cranes to take its 43-tonne weight, making this a precarious tandem lift.

All went well and we shall soon start quality checks before works on casting the deck will commence.
